    Topic: Legislative Update

Speakers: Nancy Hammer, SHRM Senior Government Affairs Policy Counsel

Nancy Hammer, senior government affairs policy counsel at the Society for Human Resource Management, a global business group with 270,000 members, said the expanded data-collection process still lacked specificity to find evidence of discrimination. “We didn’t think it would help them solve the issue they were trying to solve, which is rooting out pay discrimination,” Hammer said. “Pay has a lot of variables, and the way they collected the data was in pretty big categories.” – Washington Post

Nancy joined SHRM in January 2006 and advocates SHRM membership views in the executive branch in order to shape federal rulemaking and influence regulatory proposals affecting the HR profession. She also directs SHRM's intervention in court cases that raise critical issues for the HR professional to ensure the HR viewpoint is considered. Prior to joining SHRM, she spent five years as Legislaitve Counsel for Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE). She also served as Director of the International Division and Policy Counsel for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Nancy received her law degree from Washingtion University School of Law in St. Louis and her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
