Topic: Ethics - The SHRM Code and Beyond
Topic Description: The SHRM Code of Ethics will be compared to the Code of other
professions, and we’ll discuss important ways Ethics must be taken beyond the Code.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain an understanding of the fundamentals of the field of Ethics.
- Familiarize (or refamiliarize) attendees with the SHRM Code of Ethics.
- Learn how HR professionals are viewed by the public and why some professions are viewed more ethically than others.
- Learn the important differences between what’s ethical, legal, and moral.
Speaker: Tim Groover
Speaker Bio:
Tim Groover graduated from Virginia Tech (BSCE 1979, MSCE 1980) with a combined focus
on foundations and structural design.
With Wiley|Wilson, he held numerous technical positions from Design Engineer through Project
Manager. In his final years with the company, Tim assumed the role of Senior Director after
stepping down as President. As Senior Director, Tim focused on sustaining and growing the
100% employee-owned company’s unique culture of relentless and selfless service. He also
guided the company’s career and leadership development initiatives while continuing as the
Director of Business Development.
In addition to his time at Wiley|Wilson, Tim worked for two large design-build contractors (CBI
and Haskell) and for a commercial nuclear industry technical services company (Framatome).
Upon retirement, Tim’s passion for lifelong learning resulted in the birth of Groover Consulting,
LLC. Through this single member LLC, Tim offers career development and leadership
consulting services to individuals and organizations.
