    Topic: Building Your Talent Pipeline *Incorporate Talent Management as a Business Strategy.

    Speaker: Ben Bowman, Central Virginia Workforce Development Board Director

    During this session, participants will develop an understanding of industry sector strategy approaches to addressing talent shortages and how to partner with talent development resources for entry level recruitment and as well as existing employee career development.  Sector groups will identify key technical and workplace skills required for entry level employees and begin developing career pathways from high school into the workplace or postsecondary education. Through this introductory session, human resource professionals will:

    • Begin addressing current and emerging skills gaps in Central Virginia
    • Gain resources to engage directly with schools and workforce organizations utilizing a range of resources to prepare and recruit future employees
    • Create better alignment between workforce development programs and resources serving both employers and workers

     

    Biography:

    With over 25 years’ experience in workforce development, Ben Bowman has coordinated and /or facilitated training in leadership, customer service, hospitality/culinary arts, education, communications, conflict resolution, construction trades, manufacturing, biotechnology, information technology and healthcare.  Currently Ben serves as Executive Director of the Central Virginia Workforce Development Board with responsibilities for employment sector and career pathway development in partnership with employers, economic developers, education, training, employment and community organizations.  Prior to his role with the Central Virginia Workforce Development Board, Ben provided youth career development training and technical assistance for school divisions throughout Southwest Virginia as a Project Director with the Virginia Department of Education’s Training and Technical Assistance Center at Radford University and served in administrative roles with the Virginia Community College System.  Additionally, Ben has many years of experience as a career counselor within schools and community organizations.  His passion is helping individuals and communities improve their quality of life.
