CVCC SHRM Prep Class - Winter/Spring 2018 - Update (Registration Open)
Many of our prospective students have been waiting to hear a class update and due to the many variables I have decided to postpone the class. The class now has a starting date of Tuesday, February 27, 2018 with an ending date of May 22, 2018. The 2018 National SHRM Exam Window is open from May 1 to July 15, 2018. The regular application deadline is March 23, 2018 and best tips to apply and prepare for your exam will be covered in the class. Remember that CVCC’s course is unique in that we bundle the tuition, hard copy & online materials/resources and the exam fee totaling $2,070. There are some remaining funding sources which are described below. I encourage you to also check in with your employer to investigate professional development funding opportunities that may be available.
Please note that our winter/spring 2017 class experienced an 87% pass rate which is exceptional in comparison to the National SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP rates. We are just now hearing from our fall 2017 students as they will be taking exams through February and so far we are hearing very positive outcomes.
CVCC Workforce Staff have been waiting to hear back from a new potential source available through the CVCC Foundation (funded by the VA Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission) that may absorb a portion of the cost for individuals residing in the commission’s service area (40 tobacco-dependent localities in Southern and Southwest Virginia as listed at https://www.revitalizeva.org/about-the-commission/areas-served/). We anticipate an update next week and this source may absorb anywhere from one-sixth up to one-half of the class fees reducing class fee potentially to $1,725 or as low $1,035. CVCC Workforce Solutions does have currently access to limited funds through the Financial Aid for Noncredit Training to Industry Credentials (FANTIC) Program. The program provides funding for students demonstrating financial need who are enrolled in an approved noncredit workforce training program leading to the attainment of an industry recognized credential or licensure. Many of you have asked staff about the potential of funding for the new fiscal year (FY19). Funding is guided by the General Assembly at the Virginia Community College System. Although the fiscal year begins on July 1st we may not be informed until late July or into August concerning available funding. Some prospective students may decide to hold off for a fall 2018 class. Funding sources change from year to year and we do not know what (if any) funds will be available at that time. The fall 2018 class will begin early September and end early December 2018. The 2018 Winter National SHRM Window is open through December 1, 2018 to February 15, 2019.
